In Portugal, you are allowed to transport pets in the subway, trains, and buses, as long as they do not pose danger*. You can carry them in a box, or without one, but in this case, you will have to purchase a ticket and ensure that your pet wears a muzzle and is on a tight leash. Pets must not occupy seats intended for people.
Taxis can’t refuse to transport your pet, provided they are accompanied and in their transport box. A supplement will be €1.60 applied.
Avoid peak periods, between 8 and 10 am and 5 and 7 pm, when carrying your pet may be difficult, or even refused, due to lack of space.
*Animals considered dangerous or potentially dangerous will not be admitted in public transport services. This is the case of the Brazilian Mastiff, Argentinean Dog, Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiller, American Staffordshire Terrier, Stafford Bull Terrier and Tosa Inu.
